Hancock Pulls Off Surprise
Ricky McClanahan scored 36 points and Hancock College upset Antelope Valley, 87-84, in a first-round game of the Southern California junior college men’s basketball tournament Saturday night.
Antelope Valley, seeded sixth in the regional, took an 82-79 lead with 1:58 left in the game, but the host Marauders (21-10) didn’t score again until making two free throws with less than a second remaining.
John Burrell and Trevor Beal each scored 14 points for Antelope Valley, but they made six of 24 shots.
The Marauders led, 46-39, at halftime but made 28% of their shots in the second half.
Hancock (13-18), the No. 27-seeded team, made 54.5% of its shots in the second half and 50% for the game.
Bakersfield 79, Moorpark 63--Ceneka Shaw and Cameron Henderson each scored 22 points for but the No. 32-seeded Raiders (13-14) fell to the No. 1 Renegades at Bakersfield.
Shaw, who had 11 rebounds, and Henderson, who had nine rebounds, combined to hit 20 of 33 shots, but Moorpark’s other players were seven of 38.
Deionta Hagwood and Brandon Kurtz each scored 17 points for Bakersfield (28-3).
WOMEN
Moorpark 68, Desert 48--Janim Halsey scored 16 points, and Melissa Shoden and Christina Mosesso each had 15 for the 12th-seeded Raiders (21-10) at Moorpark.
Alofa Tuimoloau added 14 points for Moorpark.
