2 Boys Killed in Glassell Park Fire
An apartment fire that killed two young boys and critically burned their mother was probably caused by a discarded cigarette, a Fire Department spokesman said Monday.
The blaze was reported about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at 2526 W. Avenue 35, said city fire spokesman Brian Humphrey.
“When firefighters arrived, the ground unit was fully engulfed in flames,” Humphrey said. Firefighters discovered one child in a bedroom and the other in a bedroom closet, Humphrey said. The boys were 1 and 3.
Paramedics took the 21-year-old mother and the boys to County-USC Medical Center where the children were pronounced dead. The woman suffered second- and third-degree burns over 50% of her body.
