Renovation Brings Changes at Airport

Officials at John Wayne Airport showed off a $1.5-million renovation and consolidation of airport offices on Thursday.
Last year, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the renovation of a 37,000-square-foot, county-owned building on Airway Avenue, allowing airport administrators to consolidate operations. The offices had been spread among four leased buildings.
Airport spokeswoman Kathleen Campini Chambers said the airport should save about $1 million over five years by eliminating the lease payments.
The lobby of the building is decorated with memorabilia loaned to the airport by the estate of Orange County aviation pioneer Eddie Martin, who started the airport with his brothers in 1923.
