Amtrak Train Set to Resume Service
Amtrak trains are back on track, and one is scheduled to be running through Ventura County today after being knocked out of commission by storm damage to a bridge last month.
About 150 feet of the Santa Clara River bridge was washed away by rushing water and debris Feb. 23.
Amtrak officials said they had not anticipated the bridge would open before March 17.
The Coast Starlight was scheduled to leave Los Angeles at 9:30 a.m. and travel through Simi Valley and Oxnard before heading north to Oregon, Amtrak officials said.
Several hundred people travel on the long-distance train each day, said Mary Travis, manager of rail programs for the Ventura County Transportation Commission.
Amtrak officials have not determined when the San Diegan, which travels between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles on its way to San Diego, will run again.
