Taft Loses Its Biggest Hitter but Not Match
Joe Nargi was hurt, but his team wasn’t.
Nargi, a standout 6-foot-5 opposite hitter for Taft High, sprained his right ankle, but the Toreadors were able to defeat Monroe, 15-5, 15-5, 15-11, in a boys’ volleyball nonconference match Tuesday at Monroe.
Nargi, who finished with 19 kills, was injured in the third game and might not be available next Tuesday for Taft (3-0) in an important Northwest Valley Conference opener at Kennedy.
Outside hitters Elan Yackovee (20 kills) and Tomer Foruzman (14 kills) supplied the offense for Taft.
“It was good to see them come together after Joe got hurt,” Taft Coach Doug Magorien said.
Hugo Cabadas led Monroe (1-1) with 11 kills.
