Carver Elementary Will Split Enrollment
In an effort to ease crowding at Carver Elementary School, the Santa Ana Unified School District will limit enrollment to kindergarten through second grade.
Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders will be sent to an all-portable school across the street from Carver.
The school board, which voted on the matter Tuesday, has not decided whether to create a fundamental school at the all-portable site, but several parents who attended Tuesday’s meeting asked the board not to do so.
Fundamental schools, which stress back-to-basics programs and strict discipline, have open enrollment policies, meaning students from any part of Santa Ana can attend.
In that case, several parents said, the crowding problem could worsen.
The all-portable school at 1512 W. Santa Ana Blvd. will open in January.
