Zoo Fund-Raiser Offers Animal Shows

America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College will host its annual Spring Spectacular over the next two weekends--an event featuring animal shows, activities for kids and food booths.

This year’s theme is “The Circle of Life.” One of the highlights is a show called “Animal Channel,” in which the nonprofit zoo’s animals parody popular television shows. This will take place every 1 1/2 hours starting at 10:30 a.m., with the last show at 4:30 p.m.

The “Kid’s Fun Zone” will feature such activities as face painting. Visitors may also visit food booths and take a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo for an additional $5.

The zoo is operated by students of the Exotic Animal Training and Management program. Students watch over the zoo’s 150 exotic birds, mammals and reptiles. They also present educational shows at the zoo and other venues.

The event, at 7075 Campus Road, takes place the next two weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Children under 2 are admitted free.

More than 7,000 attended the event, the zoo’s largest annual fund-raising event, last year.
