Toon Sparks Kennedy Past Monroe

Jeff Toon pounded down a season-high 28 kills despite a pulled stomach muscle and Kennedy High defeated Monroe, 18-16, 12-15, 15-11, 9-15, 15-12, in a boys’ volleyball nonconference match Thursday at Kennedy.
Toon had six kills in the fifth game for Kennedy (3-0).
Monroe fell to 0-2.
In other boys’ volleyball matches:
Granada Hills d. Venice, 15-10, 15-4, 15-11--Mike Aleman had 11 kills for Granada Hills (3-0) in a nonconference match at Venice.
Saugus d. Palmdale, 17-15, 15-7, 12-15, 15-3--Matt Bradley had 18 kills and Brett Archie added 13 kills and four blocks for host Saugus (3-1) in a nonleague match.
Chatsworth d. Marshall, 15-11, 11-15, 12-15, 15-8, 15-11--David Lurth had 15 kills and 11 blocks for host Chatsworth (1-1) in a nonconference match that lasted nearly three hours.
Highland d. Canyon, 15-13, 15-8, 13-15, 15-1--Mike Wagner had 20 kills and 6-foot-8 sophomore Jared Corpening added eight kills and seven blocks for Highland (2-0) in a nonleague match at Canyon.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Campbell Hall 14, Hart 4--Justin Castillo and Nick Nadjarian won three sets at No. 2 doubles for the Vikings (4-0) at the Studio City Racquet Centre.
Notre Dame 13, Alemany 5--Freshmen Cyrus Semnani and Marvin Magcamit swept at No. 1 doubles to help the Knights (1-2-1, 1-1) to a Mission League victory at Valley College.
GOLF
Flintridge Prep 198, Southern Calif. Christian 275--Freshman Jeff Osborn shot an even-par 36 for Flintridge Prep (9-0, 2-0) in a Prep League match at Brookside Golf Course.
Harvard-Westlake 206, Chaminade 208--Rick Dem shot an even-par 35 for Harvard-Westlake (2-3, 1-2) in a Mission League match at Simi Hills Golf Course.
Alemany 189, Flintridge Sacred Heart 355--Brian Woolf of Alemany had eight pars and a bogey en route to medalist honors with a 36 in a Mission League match at Porter Valley Country Club.
Westlake 373, Nordhoff 379--Jeff Coburn won medalist honors with a two-under-par 70, but Nordhoff (2-1) lost a nonleague match at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.
BOYS’ TRACK
Notre Dame 113, Chaminade 6--In a warmup for the Alemany Relays this weekend at Cal State Northridge, Justin Fargas clocked 10.4 seconds in the 100 meters for Notre Dame (2-0, 1-0) and led off the winning 400-meter relay team that ran 42.9 in a Mission League opener at Chaminade.
Todd Fenton won the long jump (18-3) and the triple jump (39-11 1/2) for Notre Dame and ran 10.7 while finishing second to Fargas.
