In first-round National Invitation Tournament games:

* Wake Forest (16-13) overcame 36% shooting in a 56-52 victory over North Carolina-Wilmington (20-11) at Winston-Salem, N.C. The Demon Deacons play Vanderbilt (19-120 at home in a second-round game Tuesday.

* Anthony Carter had 28 points, eight assists and six rebounds to lead Hawaii (20-8) to a 90-73 victory over Arizona State (18-14) in a late Wednesday game at Honolulu. The Rainbows play Gonzaga (24-9) at home in second-round game Monday.
