SCC Salvages a Doubleheader Split

Southern California College lost the first game of a nonconference softball doubleheader with Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday at Dominguez Hills, 3-2, but rebounded to win the second game, 2-0, behind a one-hitter by Gretchen Brandt.
Brandt had four strikeouts and improved to 7-2. Teammate Alicia Groshon had two hits and an RBI for SCC.
SCC (18-4) squandered a 2-0 lead in the first game Dominguez Hills (6-11) rallied and scored the winning run on Kathy Shirley’s bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.
SCC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out single by Brandt. Dominguez Hills (6-11) scored one in the bottom of the first inning, then tied the score in the fourth on an RBI single by Candace Johnson.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Colorado State 5, Cal State Fullerton 4--Amy Medlin defeated Colorado State’s Alana Colglazier in singles, 7-6, 6-0. Fullerton is now 4-7.
Colorado State improved to 6-9.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
Stanford 3, UC Irvine 0--Devin Poolman had 21 kills and three digs in a victory for Stanford, 15-1, 15-8, 15-7. Andy Witt had 16 kills for Stanford. Setter Joshua Lukens had 53 assists for the Cardinal (11-4, 10-3).
Mike Rupp had 12 kills for UC Irvine (9-8, 5-7). Teammate Kevin Dake had 26 assists for the Anteaters.
