City Could Exercise Option to Build Gym
The city may spend $1.9 million to build a gymnasium at the planned Community Center, a proposal that comes years earlier than expected because of a recent $2.6-million sale of surplus land.
“We could begin work on the gym three to five years earlier than we expected,” said Sharon Heider, the city’s open-space project manager.
The city started construction on the $6-million Community Center in November and expects the first phase to be completed by August. The 36,400-square-foot building at Camino del Avion and Alipaz Street is next to Marco Forster Elementary School.
Additionally, the Boys and Girls Club of Capistrano Valley is proposing to build an 11,000-square-foot youth center next to the proposed gym using private funds. The council will consider the proposal at a 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto. Information: (714) 493-1171.
