Nichols Asks for New Bombing Trial

Terry L. Nichols, convicted in 1997 of conspiring to bomb the Oklahoma City federal building, said he should receive a new trial because prosecutors failed to disclose information that might have helped his defense. Nichols’ argument was filed by his attorneys with U.S. District Judge Richard P. Matsch, who presided in the separate trials of Nichols and former army buddy Timothy J. McVeigh. McVeigh was found guilty and sentenced to death. The Justice Department earlier this month said it had not found such undisclosed information. Unless Matsch grants Nichols a new trial, he is to be sentenced after a March 25 hearing. The April 19, 1995, bombing killed 168 people.
