PBJ takes on new meaning for kids; this ‘Headmistress’ is cloaked in surprise; reprise of Alex Haley’s ‘Roots’ on cable’s Family

A new half-hour animated series, PB&J; Otter, premieres on the Disney Channel and features the adventures of three young river otters named Peanut, Jelly and Baby Butter. They live on a houseboat with their parents and pet fish. The series will air Satudays and Sundays at 7:30 a.m. For ages 2 to 5.

A teenage girl adopts a newborn seal she rescues from certain death in Summer With Selik (KCET, Sunday at 8 a.m.). The story unfolds on the beautiful western coast of Norway. For ages 5 and up.

Harland Williams plays Tucker, a professional swindler just out of prison who accidentally becomes the head of a boarding school, in Mr. Headmistress on “The Wonderful World of Disney” (ABC, Sunday at 7 p.m.). The adventure begins when Tucker dresses up as a woman to escape two thugs, then is mistaken for the new headmistress of the Rawlings School for Girls. He decides to continue the masquerade when he learns that the school is about to receive a large donation from its benefactor. For the family.

John Amos, LeVar Burton, Ed Asner, Lloyd Bridges and Lou Gossett Jr. star in the classic television miniseries Roots (Family Channel, Part 1 and 2, Sunday at 7 p.m.), Alex Haley’s saga about an African American family’s struggle to gain its freedom from slavery. Part 3 airs March 17 at 8 p.m.; Part 4 airs March 18 at 8 p.m.; Parts 5 and 6 air March 18 at 7 p.m. For ages 10 and up.

A 14-year-old champion swimmer (Natalie Ramsey) considers quitting her sport for a “normal life” after she comes under extreme pressure from her well-meaning mother, who is also the coach, in Broken Record, part of “Sports Theater With Shaquille O’Neal” (Nickelodeon, Saturday at 9 p.m.). After she quits, the teenager begins coaching her friend in volleyball and starts to understand the commitment from a coach’s perspective.
