Fund-Raiser Chung Pleads Guilty to Fraud

Torrance businessman Johnny Chien Chuen Chung, 43, pleaded guilty as expected in federal court in Los Angeles to election law violations, tax evasion and bank fraud. Chung, who from 1994 to 1996 was one of the biggest donors to the Democratic Party and individual candidates, had earlier agreed to plead guilty and cooperate with a Justice Department task force investigating campaign finance abuses. Terms of his plea agreement and details about cooperation with investigators remained sealed. Sentencing was delayed until July 20.
