Section Recognizes Players from Region
Three high school girls’ soccer players from the region on Monday were recognized by the Southern Section as players of the year.
Hart junior midfielder Erin Misaki was selected the Division I offensive player of the year and Chaminade senior midfielder Carlie Stokes was picked as the Division III defensive player of the year.
In Division IV, St. Bonaventure junior sweeper Jennifer Griffith was selected defensive player of the year and Coach Rod Mendoza was picked as coach of the year.
FOOTBALL
Going places: Karalus Doyle, a former Kennedy High and Valley College defensive back, has accepted a scholarship to Florida A&M; in Tallahassee, Fla.
Tight end Michael De Leon of Highland High has signed with UC Davis.
VOLLEYBALL
Beach-bound: Craig Revell, a 6-foot-4 outside hitter at Flintridge Prep, has committed to UC Santa Barbara.
Rank and file: Six teams from the region are ranked in the Southern Section boys’ poll. Royal is No. 5 and Harvard-Westlake is No. 6 in Division I, Newbury Park is No. 4 in Division II and Campbell Hall is No. 4, Crespi is No. 5 and Notre Dame is No. 9 in Division III.
