Life Gets Better for Vanderbilt
Dan Langhi scored a career-high 19 points as Vanderbilt earned its first 20-win season in four years with a 72-68 victory over Wake Forest in the second round of the NIT Tuesday night at Winston-Salem, N.C.
Langhi rallied the Commodores (20-12) from an eight-point deficit by scoring 11 points in the final 5:35. Wake Forest (16-14) lost for only the fourth time in the last 64 non-conference games at Joel Coliseum.
Georgia 61, North Carolina State 55--Jumaine Jones made a rally-killing three-point basket with 5:27 to play to help the Bulldogs (18-14) hold off the Wolfpack (17-15) in the second round of the NIT at Raleigh, N.C.
The Bulldogs moved into a quarterfinal matchup with Southeastern Conference rival Vanderbilt.
Jones finished with 20 points for the Bulldogs. Ron Kelley and Ishua Benjamin had 13 apiece for North Carolina State.
WOMEN
Lara Webb scored 23 points and Baylor almost squandered a big second-half lead before hanging on for a 54-47 victory over Oklahoma State in a second-round NIT game at Waco, Texas.
The Bears (19-10), who nearly collapsed as Oklahoma State (20-11) scored 20 consecutive points, advanced to a semifinal game against Louisiana State.
