Traffic Study Outlines Residents’ Concerns

Recommendations made by Sherman Oaks residents concerning traffic in their area are one step closer to becoming a reality.

A traffic study conducted by the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn. has found its way onto the desks of Department of Transportation officials. Association members are hoping some changes can be approved by the department in the next couple of months.

“Everyone has been real receptive so far,” said Andrew Zucker, an association member who conducted the study from June to November of last year. “We don’t see any reason why we won’t get the same reaction from the Department of Transportation.”

The study was recently reviewed by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Bureau and Councilman Michael Feuer’s office, both of whom supported several proposals in the study.

The intersection of Beverly Glen and Ventura boulevards, believed to be one of the most congested in the Valley and the area that topped the study’s list of places to avoid, has already been addressed. According to Feuer’s office, the traffic signal has been lengthened to increase the flow of southbound traffic.

The study includes a list of 40 areas prone to congestion, speeding, flooding and other traffic problems. Along with Beverly Glen, the intersections of Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Ventura Boulevard, and Mulholland Drive and Roscomare Road were cited.
