Page Keeps Up Defense of Ferreira

Coach Pierre Page continued to defend General Manager Jack Ferreira, although Ferreira asked him to avoid mentioning his name in talks with reporters.

“I talked to Jack [Friday] and Jack said, ‘Do me a favor and don’t mention my name anymore. I’ll take care of my own situation,’ ” Page said. “When the situation looked like a lost cause in the middle of last year, he’s the guy who made the moves that turned it around.

“He traded for [Dmitri] Mironov and J.J. [Daigneault] and all of a sudden those guys [the Ducks] overachieved [and made the playoffs]. It’s the same situation now. Nobody should doubt what he can do.”

Ferreira’s job status is uncertain. The Ducks must win 11 of their final 13 to avoid their worst record in his five-season tenure.

If center J.F. Jomphe had to play in the minors this season, at least it was with Quebec of the International Hockey League.

“It’s been fun to play there with all my family there,” said Jomphe, who had an assist Saturday in his first game since being recalled from Quebec on Friday. “I’ve been playing 30 minutes a game. I’m happy [to get the call-up]. It’s a perfect coincidence. I got a big point in Montreal. You can’t get any better than that.”
