Los Amigos Wins First League Game in 6 Years
Angela Yorba hit a two-run double to highlight a three-run fourth inning, helping host Los Amigos win its first Garden Grove League softball game in six years by defeating Santiago, 4-3, Tuesday.
Los Amigos (4-6-2, 1-0 in league) trailed, 2-1, before scoring three runs in the fourth to take control. Kim Guillen also had a squeeze bunt to score a run in the fourth for the Lobos.
Santiago is 0-1 in league.
In other Garden Grove League games:
La Quinta 12, Bolsa Grande 1 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Heidi Foster had a a home run, three runs and two runs batted in for host La Quinta (2-5, 1-0).
Rancho Alamitos 9, Garden Grove 5--Freshman catcher Jami Weddle had two hits, including a triple, and two runs for host Rancho Alamitos (5-2, 1-0).
In nonleague games:
Canyon 12, Savanna 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Catcher Amber Boeg was three for three with a double, a home run and four RBIs and Lisa Hatter added three hits and three RBIs for host Canyon (7-6). Meghan Goldstein (2-0) pitched a four-hitter for the Comanches.
Capistrano Valley 6, University 3--Alexis Smith hit a three-run homer in the fourth for host Capistrano Valley (8-2), which led, 6-0, after that inning. Winning pitcher Kristen Mullen (2-1) threw four innings and struck out five.
El Dorado 10, Western 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Melissa Hobson and Jill Jessen combined on a one-hitter with seven strikeouts for host El Dorado (4-3). Tiffany Smith had three hits and two runs for El Dorado.
Capistrano Valley Christian 13, Liberty Christian 12--In the bottom of the seventh, Cari Foust scored the tying run on a passed ball, then Lindsay Fait doubled home Lauren Capriotti with the winning run for host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-3).
Capriotti had two doubles and three RBIs for the Eagles.
Newport Harbor 7, Costa Mesa 4--Kristen Smith had two home runs and four RBIs for visiting Newport Harbor (5-3).
Southern California Christian 11, Connelly 1 (6, mercy)--Delci Huntley pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for SCC (6-1). Bethany Brown and Olga Ramos each hit their first home runs and Ramos had two RBIs for the Flames.
Sunny Hills 11, Anaheim 0 (5, mercy)--Katie Monken pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts and Jamie LaFleur had two hits, two RBIs and two runs for Sunny Hills (4-3).
Tustin 9, Mission Viejo 3--Myra Vazquez drove in three runs and Michelle Silvis drove in two more for Tustin (3-5-1). Mission Viejo fell to 1-6.
Villa Park 4, Loara 1--Brittany Cuddy struck out nine en route to a three-hitter and got offensive support from catcher Jill Sandoval, who was two for two with a double, one RBI and two stolen bases. Villa Park is 5-3-1.
