Los Alamitos, Sr.
Clearly the most dominant goalie in the county and the Southern Section this season. The Stanford-bound senior anchored a stingy defense for Los Alamitos, which finished second to Marina in the tough Sunset League.
ERIN HAYES
Two meters
University, Sr.
This two-time Pacific Coast League MVP led University to the Division III final, where it lost to Rosary. Hayes is one of the fastest swimmers in the county and used a powerful shot and deceptive moves to score 99 goals.
ALDEN MOORE
Two meters
Newport Harbor, Sr.
The Sea View League’s MVP led Newport Harbor (20-7) to the league title and the Division I semifinals before it lost to top-seeded Long Beach Wilson. Moore scored 69 goals and also was the team’s top defender.
KRISTYN PULVER
Two meters
Villa Park, So.
The Century League’s player of the year led the Spartans (20-7) to another league title. Pulver was one of the county’s dominant two-meter players, setting single-season school records for goals (87) and steals (117).
ASHLEY STACHOWSKI
Two meters
Capistrano Valley, Jr.
Stachowski has established herself on the club circuit, so it wasn’t a huge surprise that she was the South Coast League MVP in her first high school girls’ season. Regarded as one of the county’s best defenders.
JULIA WALD
Two meters
Rosary, Sr.
A prolific scorer, the two-time Golden West League MVP led Rosary to the Division III championship. Wald scored 123 goals this season after getting 137 last season. USC and Loyola Marymount are recruiting her.
JENNY LAMB
Utility
Marina, Sr.
Her all-around play led Marina to a 24-5 season and the Division I championship. Lamb’s two-meter defense (170 steals) anchored the Vikings on one end, but she also scored 73 goals. Will play at UCLA next season.
DAVE CARLSON
Coach of the Year
Marina
A meticulous tactician, Carlson preached team unity and helped to motivate Marina (24-5) on its magical championship drive. Marina beat top-seeded and previously unbeaten Long Beach Wilson in the Division I final, 7-3.
THE SECOND TEAM
Candice Chick, Marina, Sr.: Goalie / Sparkled in the clutch. Allowed 2.51 goals per game.
Erin Lezak, Irvine, Jr.: Two meters / Powerful two-meter player led team in scoring.
Chelsea Rowlands, Capistrano Valley, Sr.: Two meters / Explosive scorer at two meters.
Sharon Vanderpass, Fountain Valley, Sr.: Two meters / Gifted player excelled in county’s toughest league.
Cara Chlebicki, Marina, Fr.: Utility / Improving all-around player complemented Lamb.
Nicole Huszcz, Irvine, Jr.: Utility / Tough defender led Irvine to Division I semifinals.
Shelli Linza, Los Alamitos, Sr.: Utility / Helped team finish second to Marina in league.
