Higher concession prices greeted fans returning to the ballpark Friday. As Anaheim Stadium became Edison Field, the price of most food items increased 25 or 50 cents from last season.

A meal of a hot dog, small peanuts and small soda went from $5.75 to $6.75, up 15%. A meal of chicken Caesar salad, regular popcorn and coffee increased from $9.50 to $11.25, up 18%.

Anaheim Sports spokesman Tim Mead pointed out the wider variety of items available this season, including food courts with international cuisine and a kids’ stand featuring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ($2.50) and macaroni and cheese ($3.25).

Still, the increases for food prices follow a 27% increase in the average ticket price.

“Hopefully, we can minimize things for the future,” Mead said. “I think, as you shop around, you’ll find our prices are average to below average compared to other parks around baseball.”
