NOT TV’S JOB

I would like to comment on Marcia Lewis’ March 8 letter regarding the “Frasier” comedy show. Since when is it the responsibility of a 30-minute sitcom to “contribute something to solving the racial problems we face in this country”?
A television sitcom is merely here to entertain us, and I am very entertained by the excellent character depiction of this series. If they were to, for example, bring on an African American character friend for Frasier, he would be just like Frasier, a pompous but lovable snob and therefore would be criticized and labeled an Uncle Tom.
Please look to television for its intentions to entertain and look to your local leaders or, better yet, look to yourself to make the changes you deem necessary for the world.
