Disneyland Police Tactics Questioned
* Re “Disneyland Loses Suit Over False Accusation” (April 25):
Congratulations to Denise Winters. A happy ending to an almost unbelievable story. Almost unbelievable because we have heard these Disneyland stories before.
What is most bewildering to me are the tactics of the Disneyland police force. Collecting $500 fines from suspected shoplifters, sending Winters a fine for $275. Give me a break. Who needs the Anaheim Police Department when we have the “Duck Police.”
Disney considering an appeal? Why not, there are probably more lawyers on Disney’s payroll than any other type employee. Either these lawyers are suing someone or they’re sitting on their backsides; cost to Disney is the same.
Then Disneyland spokesman Tom Brocato says, “ . . . the safety and security or our guests remains one of our top priorities.” This self-serving corporate statement may be true, but what does this have to do with treating guests fairly and decently?
Unfortunately, $65,000 probably represents 10 minutes or less of Disney Chairman Michael Eisner’s time. But to us ordinary folks, it’s a victory, especially the punitive part. Congratulations again.
