The arraignment of a 55-year-old Moorpark man who was arrested on suspicion of molesting his step-granddaughter has been continued from Monday until May 21.
The Ventura County district attorney charged David Whittington with five counts of a lewd act on a child under the age of 14. The arraignment was continued at the request of the defense.
Sheriff’s deputies took Whittington into custody last Wednesday.
The 11-year-old girl, who lived with Whittington, has been placed with family members out of the area, Sheriff’s Capt. Keith Parks said.
Bail has been set at $20,000 with the condition that Whittington, a retired Oregon postal worker who moved to the county two years ago, not be in contact with the victim or any other child under 14 years old.
The molestations allegedly occurred over the last two months, Parks said.
There is no indication of any other victims, he said.
