Lethal Force
* Re “White House Justifies Option of Lethal Force,” Oct. 29: Those officials in Washington who hint that our government is considering armed strikes against those it calls “terrorists” are dead wrong on two counts: They conveniently forget that such actions (very seldom, if ever, responses to some “clear and present” danger to American interests) violate the constitutional mandate that wars must be declared by Congress; such strikes play directly into the hands of the terrorists, who eagerly seek chances to suffer martyrdom for their “sacred” causes. How could we even think of being such patsies?
