China Debate Team Will Argue Against Male-Female Equality
A debate team from China will argue that “equality between the sexes is not possible” when it visits the Irvine Valley College student center Friday.
Students from the South Orange County College District, which includes Saddleback and Irvine Valley colleges, will debate otherwise during the 7 p.m. event.
“It isn’t often we get a chance to exchange ideas with a team from another country,” said Gary Rybold, debate coach and instructor at Irvine Valley College.
“The fact that we are the only community college on the Chinese tour speaks for the reputation our students have developed. We expect this to be more than a debate. The cultural exchange is just as important.”
Michael Kindybal and Rick Travis of the college district speech and debate team have earned many first place trophies.
The team has gathered 29 first place awards in the last two years. The Chinese students attend Xi’an Foreign Language University.
The debate is free.
