G-7 Plan

Your Oct. 31 article, “Economy, in Surprise, Expands at Strong Pace,” is encouraging, despite a few adverse points like the weakening position of U.S. exports in the past Asian-financial-crisis period. The approach proposed by the G-7 countries is a welcome departure from the earlier “wait and see” attitude which, at times, had disastrous consequences.
I only wish this change of attitude had come one year earlier, when the Asian crisis first surfaced. If it had, the number of financially beleaguered countries could perhaps be less.
