Sprint Introduces Flat-Rate Calling Plan

Price wars for long-distance calls intensified as Sprint Corp., the nation’s third-largest long-distance company, introduced a new plan that offers unlimited weekend long-distance calls for a flat rate of $25 a month. Subscribers to the new Sprint Unlimited plan, which went into effect Thursday, will get a rate of 10 cents per minute on weekdays. Under the plan, a customer would have to make about four hours of weekend calls in a month to see savings. Rival AT&T; Corp., the largest long-distance company, quickly responded, saying that it will match the Sprint plan for customers who request it. No. 2 MCI WorldCom Inc. did not return calls seeking comment.
