When Control Is the Issue
Some things--like change--never change. But while you can’t control it, you can control your response to it.
* Trying to balance family and work? You probably feel worried, guilty or inadequate. Try seeking support from co-workers, friends and family. Find a child-care situation you can trust--and let go.
* Just got promoted? Congratulations! But the thought of new responsibilities makes you feel like running away. OK, take a deep breath, and break the work down into small steps. Ask others who have been promoted for tips on succeeding.
* You’ve been laid off. Yes, we know it’s easy to say, “Don’t panic.” But . . . don’t panic. Assess areas of control, priority of bills, unemployment insurance. Start networking. Think about your skills, accomplishments and goals.
