Haugen Sets Mark Against Northridge

Setter Melissa Haugen entered the Big Sky Conference record book and Northern Arizona snapped a three-match losing streak with a 17-19, 15-14, 15-11, 15-6 women’s volleyball victory over Cal State Northridge on Thursday night at Flagstaff, Ariz.

Haugen’s 79 assists gave her 5,040, bettering by two the record set by Courtney Davis of Idaho State.

Laura Szymanski had 20 kills for the Matadors (11-9, 7-6 in conference play). Crystal Newquist contributed 13 kills, 20 digs and five blocks for Northridge, which has lost three consecutive matches to Northern Arizona dating to last season.

Azusa Pacific def. The Master’s, 15-2, 17-5, 15-9--Izzy Bolles had 13 kills for the Cougars in a nonleague victory at Newhall.

Beth Barrington and Kim Gibson each had eight kills and Katie Lehr added 24 assists for The Master’s (17-13).
