Storr to Restart His Season

Goalie Jamie Storr announced his readiness Friday and that’s all it took to get him the starting assignment tonight when the Kings entertain Chicago.

After a false start a week ago, when he skated in practice with Long Beach, Storr decided that more rehabilitation was necessary for the groin strain that has sidelined him since Oct. 18. That was the same game in which starting goalie Stephane Fiset suffered a similar injury.

Storr will be backed up by Manny Legace, unless something untoward happens in the pregame skate this morning.

“I wasn’t ready last week,” said Storr, who has started one game, a 4-2 loss at Vancouver on Oct. 12. “I thought I was, but when I practiced, I thought it would be better to wait. . . . But they know I’m ready now.”

Legace has played in 15 of the last 16 King games, compacted into fewer than 30 days. He has started 14 of those and has a 2-9-2 record, though with a 2.24 goals-against average.

Add Sandy Moger to the Kings’ injury list. He suffered a strained back at San Jose on Wednesday, then aggravated it Thursday in the first period against the Rangers. Moger is not expected to play tonight.

* Update--Chicago, a team in transition, broke a 0-8-2 slide with a 2-1 win at Nashville on Wednesday night. The Kings are trying to break a slide during which they have lost six consecutive games. The Blackhawks are led by right wing Tony Amonte, who has 13 goals, tops in the NHL and more than a third of Chicago’s 38. He took a puck on his left cheek during practice Thursday and may have to wear a face mask tonight.
