Bicycle Trail
Re “Path of Proposed Trail Leaves Farmers on Edge,” Nov. 13.
My family’s ranch is divided in half by the proposed Santa Clara River Branch trail. Not only would the trail put our livelihood at risk because of theft and destruction of property but it would endanger our children and pets as well. Now I hear that we cannot erect a fence to protect ourselves because trail users would have nowhere to run if they were attacked. Should I leave the back porch light on?
Cycle shop owner Barry Brenner needs to get off his bicycle long enough to think about how he would like thousands of people tramping through his backyard. Or stealing from his business. Then tell me how this proposed trail “improves the environment,” when it would be chopping away at the county’s greatest resources.
Somehow I can’t see how Barry cycling though our property is a “golden opportunity” that will “improve our quality of life.”

Hey farmers, I wouldn’t get all in a huff over that “proposed” Santa Clara River bike trail. Just look at how far the city / county has proceeded with the Ventura River trail connecting to the Ojai Valley trail. I would guess maybe 300 or 400 yards south of Foster Park.
Pretty impressive, considering that it was advertised as being completed in the spring of ‘98! Also, you only need to look at the Omer Rains Trail behind the fairgrounds to see how committed this city is to providing bike trails.
And the beat goes on.
