Lava Flow Keeps Scores From Homes

Authorities in the western state of Jalisco prevented more than 100 people from returning to their homes on the flanks of the Colima volcano after its lava began to flow faster than expected. Residents of the village of Juan Barragan who were evacuated Wednesday from their homes about five miles from the crater had been promised they could return Saturday. Civil defense groups in the neighboring state of Colima said they were considering widening the evacuation, the government news agency Notimex reported.
