New Phone, Fax for Consumer Questions
California’s consumer-protection program for travelers has new phone and fax numbers.
Consumers who want to check whether a travel agent or tour operator is registered, or alert officials to an unregistered travel seller, can call the state Attorney General’s office at (213) 897-8065 or fax the office at (213) 897-8846.
Travel agents, tour operators and airline ticket brokers who do business in California are required to display state-issued registration numbers under the so-called Seller of Travel law. In many cases, the law also provides for restitution if a California-based company fails to provide a service that was paid for. To obtain claim forms, write the Travel Consumer Restitution Corp., P.O. Box 6001, Larkspur, CA 94977-6001.
