Wisconsin Accepts Rose Bowl Bid
Wisconsin accepted an invitation to play in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Wisconsin virtually assured the invitation when it beat Penn State, 24-3, last week and Ohio State defeated Michigan. That left Wisconsin with a share of the conference championship with a 7-1 Big Ten record and 10-1 overall mark.
Wisconsin previously appeared in the Rose Bowl in 1953, 1960, 1963 and 1994, when it beat UCLA, 21-16, for the Badgers’ only Rose Bowl victory.
“The Rose Bowl is the greatest venue in college sports and the game itself is a remarkable experience,” Badger Coach Barry Alvarez said in a news release. “We are thrilled to get another chance to play in the granddaddy of them all.” . . .
Tulsa Coach Dave Rader will get a four-year extension on his contract, despite his seventh consecutive losing season. Rader has coached for 11 years at his alma mater. His record is 48-74-1. . . . The Washington Huskies will play in either the Aloha Bowl, where they played last year, or the new Oahu Bowl. Both games will be played on Christmas Day. The Bowl Games of Hawaii has yet to decide on the games’ matchups.
