5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Area Near Redding
SAN FRANCISCO — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 struck Thursday about 220 miles north of San Francisco, but officials said there were no reports of damage.
The quake occurred at 11:50 a.m. about three miles north of Redding in mostly rural, mountainous Shasta County.
Pat Jorgenson, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif., said the quake was probably strong enough to topple small items from shelves.
“A 5.2 is a moderate quake but it’s not a big shaker. It usually is felt by most people living between 20 to 50 miles from the epicenter, so probably most Redding residents felt it,” Jorgenson said.
