Cal Lutheran Leaves Four Seasons

Missy Rider scored 23 points and Cal Lutheran defeated UC San Diego for the first time in four seasons, 67-55, on Saturday in a nonconference women’s basketball game at Cal Lutheran.
Rider, a senior forward, scored 19 of her points in the second half and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Regals (4-0).
Katie Placido scored nine of her 14 points for Cal Lutheran during a 27-16 run that gave the Regals a 36-25 halftime lead.
Valery Brady, who played at Valley College, and Kate Carpenter each scored eight points for the Regals.
Genevieve Ruvald scored 15 points for the Tritons (1-2).
Pierce 92, Reedley 76--Stephanie Taylor scored 18 of her 33 points in the second half and the Brahmas (2-2) won a nonconference game at Pierce.
Cheryl Flores scored 30 points, Sunday Sims had 16 and Jennifer Thornell pulled down 15 rebounds for the Brahmas.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cerritos 84, Canyons 62--Le Mar Gayle scored 24 points for the Falcons in a nonconference victory at Valencia.
Anthony Ellison scored 11 points for the Cougars (3-4).
BOXING
Carlos Martinez of Oxnard improved to 11-0 with a first-round knockout of Jose Gallardo in a junior-middleweight bout at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio.
Martinez floored Gallardo three times before the bout was stopped after 66 seconds.
A scheduled eight-round heavyweight bout between Lance Whitaker of Granada Hills and Levi Billups of San Diego was canceled.
