Cypress Gets 3 Early Goals in Easy Victory
Cypress scored three goals in the first 13 minutes and coasted past Ohlone, 4-0, in the community college women’s soccer state tournament semifinals Saturday at West Valley College in Saratoga.
Ohlone had defeated Cypress in the state semifinals last season, 2-1.
Cypress’ Jane Specht scored in the third minute on a header off of a corner kick from Nicole Terry. Teammates Heather Mears and Wendy Matis added goals in the next 10 minutes for Cypress and Tami Askey capped the half with a goal in the 30th minute.
Trisha Forni made two saves for Cypress (23-0-2), which plays El Camino (18-1-2) in the final at 11 a.m. today at West Valley. El Camino defeated Santa Rosa (18-1-1) in overtime, 2-1, in the other semifinal. Ohlone ended 20-3-1.
Cypress, seeking its first state championship, is making its fourth consecutive appearance in the state tournament and fifth appearance in eight years.
