Kaiser Opens Its Doors to Overnight Patients

Kaiser Permanente Medical Center opened its doors to overnight and longer-stay patients for the first time Wednesday after receiving permission from county health officials.
The $200-million tower was built four years ago but has offered only outpatient services because of a lack of demand for hospital beds.
When demand increased, hospital officials sought and received approval from the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services for overnight stays.
The hospital, near the San Bernardino and San Gabriel River freeways, has a capacity of 250 beds, but initially is expected to operate with about 100 overnight patients.
