City to Study Intersection Near School

Despite earlier efforts to ease traffic congestion, the City Council has asked its staff to develop a plan to improve safety at a busy intersection near Newbury Park High School.
City staff will review traffic and pedestrian patterns at the intersection of Reino Road and Lesser Drive before making its recommendations on how to solve traffic problems.
The city recently installed “Keep Clear” signs in the intersection and installed right-turn-only lanes to improve traffic flow.
Newbury Park High Principal Max Beaman said he is still worried about the safety of students crossing the street at the busy intersection.
“In the morning and afternoon there is some real traffic congestion there,” he said.
“There are a lot of cars driving both ways, that pull up to the crosswalk and block that intersection.”
Conejo Valley school board President Dolores Didio said the city and school district share responsibility for ensuring traffic safety around schools.
