There is no denying the fact that Citizens For Lower Water Rates was organized by local developers whose plans for as many as 200 homes in rural Stokes Canyon disappeared when the former Micor land was purchased for public open space by the city of Calabasas, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD).

Don’t be fooled by their message of lower water raters. Who do you think is going to pay if subsidized hookup fees and the parcel tax on vacant land are eliminated? Do we want to return to a time when taxpayers subsidized new development, or should developers underwrite the cost?

If the slate of candidates supported by the Citizens For Lower Water Rates should be elected, development in the mountains will lose an important safeguard. Reelect incumbents [Harold] Helsley, [Glen] Peterson and [Ann] Dorgelo.
