Sunny Hills running backs Chris Wheaton and Andrew Tindukasiri combined for 201 yards rushing and three touchdowns as the Lancers shut out La Habra, 26-0, in a Freeway League game Friday at La Habra.

Wheaton scored on runs of five and three yards in the second half for Sunny Hills (4-4, 2-1). The Highlanders dropped to 2-6, 1-2.

“It was a rough game,” said Wheaton, who last week set a school record by rushing for 303 yards against Buena Park. “They were hitting but with the help of my line, I was able to get a few [yards]. This win will really boost our confidence.’

Early in the first quarter, after an interception by defensive lineman Jose Arevalos, Tindukasiri scored on a six-yard run. The PAT was missed and Sunny Hills led, 6-0.

Midway through the third quarter, Sunny Hills marched 57 yards in five plays to increase its lead to 12-0. Wheaton completed the scoring drive with five-yard touchdown run.

Sunny Hills quarterback Jared Bruce, who was battling the flu, put the game out of reach when he scored on a 34-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Six minutes later, Wheaton finished the Lancers’ scoring on a three-yard run.

The Lancers’ defense, led by Greg Tucker and Steve Rhoads, sacked Ryan Hall four times and forced three Highlander turnovers as Sunny Hills’ held La Habra under 100 yards in total offense.

La Habra running back Josh Herrera, who dislocated his right elbow last week against Fullerton, did not play and will be out the remainder of the season unless the Highlanders’ make the playoffs.
