City Will Get $212,000 for Base Reuse

The city will get $212,000 as its share of grants to help communities facing military base closures plan for land reuse and worker retraining, a state spokesman announced Wednesday.
The grant will help Tustin extend streets and utilities through the Marine Corps Air Facility and “ultimately accommodate new commerce in the city,” said Christine Shingleton, assistant city manager.
It also will help the city qualify to receive a $2.1-million federal grant, which requires that cities come up with 25% matching funding.
The grants will go toward the extension of Valencia and Armstrong avenues into the base and will open up commercial and industrial development near Red Hill Avenue and Barranca Parkway.
