Disney Hall

* Whether of limestone, titanium or recycled letters from the Hollywood sign, Disney Hall’s completion undoubtedly will signify our metropolis’ rise into prominence. I’m eager to see it happen.
However, word from on high has it that the building will become the new icon of Los Angeles. How is it that a facility dedicated to an elitist pastime adequately symbolizes our region? Downtown needs a unique place, a vital common ground accessible, resonant and truly representative of the cultural phantasmagoria which we’ve become. Perhaps we need a monument of an entirely different sort.
