Directed by “Map of the Human Heart’s” Vincent Ward, “What Dreams May Come” stars Robin Williams (right), Cuba Gooding Jr., Annabella Sciorra and Max Von Sydow in a tale of a love so powerful that it defies the bounds of heaven and earth. The film opens Friday in general release.

MOVIES

“Antz,” DreamWorks’ first animated film, is the tale of a revolution in an ant colony that becomes a celebration of individuality in the face of overwhelming conformity. Featuring the voices of 13 actors, ranging (alphabetically) from Woody Allen to Christopher Walken, it opens Friday in general release.

THEATER

How time flies. Barry Williams, Greg Brady on “The Brady Bunch,” is finding trouble in River City as the slick salesman Prof. Harold Hill in Meredith Willson’s classic, “The Music Man.” The touring Theatre League production opens Saturday at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

MUSIC

Irish flutist James Galway opens the classical music season at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday night with a program of trio sonatas by J.S. Bach. Galway’s colleagues are harpsichordist Phillip Moll, violinist Monica Huggett, viola da gambist Sarah Cunningham and flutist Jeanne Galway.

DANCE

Donald Byrd/The Group performs the West Coast premiere of Byrd’s full-evening “Jazz Train” on Friday at Marsee Auditorium of El Camino College in Torrance. The three-part work features commissioned scores by drummer Max Roach, guitarist Vernon Reid and pianist Geri Allen.

ARCHITECTURE

The restoration of an arts and crafts classic will be showcased in “Rebirth of a Landmark: The Robert R. Blacker House of Greene and Greene,” a rare public tour of the Charles and Henry Greene-designed home in Pasadena. Self-guided tours begin Friday and continue through Oct. 18.

POP MUSIC

Beloved for its rawness, castigated for what the singer might be saying (he actually wasn’t), “Louie Louie” remains a pillar of rock ‘n’ roll. On the 35th anniversary of the garage-rock classic’s release, the Kingsmen appear Saturday at the Greek Theatre on K-EARTH’s annual oldies concert lineup.

Nothing is what it seems in David Mamet’s “The Spanish Prisoner,” as Campbell Scott finds himself caught in a dangerous maze of murder and intrigue. The complicated but delightfully thrilling mystery, which also stars Steve Martin, Ben Gazzara and Rebecca Pidgeon, arrives on video Tuesday.
