Roberto Tomas Vernezobre, 6, received a pulmonic valve transplant when he was just 4 years old. Today he is in Washington, D.C., along with 200 other children who have received transplants, as part of the First Family Pledge to honor congressional members who support organ and tissue donation. The Red Cross hopes the sight of hundreds of children such as Roberto, who now lead happy and healthy lives thanks to such donations, will encourage others to consider this vital issue. The First Family Pledge was organized by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization and the American Red Cross. Information: American Red Cross Orange County, (714) 835-2381.
