Westlake’s Kohut Chooses UCLA

J.T. Kohut of Westlake High, considered the region’s top high school golf prospect, signed a letter of intent with UCLA on Tuesday night.
Kohut, 5 feet 11 and 195 pounds, chose the Bruins over USC after spending three agonizing months contemplating his decision.
“It was probably the most difficult decision of my life,” he said. “It was as close as you can get. It was a gut feeling.”
Kohut is rated among the top junior golfers in Southern California. He finished second in the Southern Section individual championships as a sophomore and has made 14 holes in one.
He has overcome epilepsy, which once forced him to take 25 pills a dayand dyslexia to score 1,000 on his SAT.
