‘Mighty Peking Man’ at Midnight Shows

Quentin Tarantino’s Rolling Thunder Films is releasing a restored version of “Mighty Peking Man” (Sunset 5, tonight and Saturday at midnight), a schlocky 1977 Hong Kong knockoff of the 1976 remake of “King Kong.”
Unintentionally funny, this adventure finds a Hong Kong explorer (Danny Lee) heading for India in search of a gorilla 10 stories tall and winds up finding not only him but the animal-skin bikinied blond beauty (Evelyne Kraft) he has raised since she survived a plane crash as a child.
Miniature work and process shots are painfully obvious, the dubbed English dialogue predictably dreadful, but it adds up to perfect midnight movie fun. (323) 848-3500.
Tarantino is expected to be on hand tonight, as will a jokester in a gorilla suit.
