Youth Center Benefits From a Real Team Effort
Community and business support made this year’s first Christmas tree sale for the Youth Center a success, Director Tom Stretz said.
“They sought us out because they knew the proceeds were going to benefit kids,” he said. “Instead of going a few blocks down the street to buy it at Target, they sought out the Youth Center.”
About $18,700 was raised and 1,069 trees were sold within a three-week period at the Ganahl Lumber parking lot, Stretz said. All the proceeds are going to fund the Youth Center program, he said.
The lot was supplied by the lumber store and they also provided much of the operational support. It was staffed by high school students.
Trend Offset Printing donated the tent, Leoni Electric provided power, Shaw provided the interior lighting and local contractors Ed Keskey and George Sagen joined their crews in putting on the stands and bowls for the trees.
Stretz said the sale will be repeated next year. Ganahl Lumber already has offered its lot.
