Royal Assistant Dave Marshall Dies at Age 33

Dave Marshall Jr., an assistant boys’ varsity basketball coach at Royal High for the last seven years, died Monday after a three-year battle with lymphoma.
Marshall, 33, coached alongside Larry Wiksell for the first two weeks of this season.
But his health deteriorated quickly after a tumor in his chest grew rapidly and affected the ability of several major organs--including his lungs--to function properly.
Wiksell, 35, said he and Marshall were “co-coaches” at Royal for seven seasons, although they had different titles.
“During this whole thing, I’ve thought just how lucky I was to know him,” Wiksell said.
“I’ve never dwelt on how much I’m going to miss him. Instead, I’ve focused on all the good times we’ve had together . . . and what a privilege it was to know him.”
A memorial service will be held for Marshall at Church of the Living Christ in Simi Valley at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
